Natural Journey: Month 7

I’m celebrating my seventh month of chemical-free and heat-free hair. I’m really proud of myself for sticking with my natural hair goals, but with that celebration comes frustration stemming from tangled tresses and shedding coils. There’s not a place around my apartment where I won’t find strands of hair.  I’m pretty sure the shedding is normal; I’m not losing large clumps of hair on wash day. I guess the reason I’m noticing more shedding is because I’ve started to comb out some of those tangles whenever my hair is wet. Needless to say my hair continues to grow and is now long enough to hold a braid. YAY!

  1. UH OH girl! Work that TWA. I stayed doing the curl defined afro with Eco gel when I was at that stage, lol, loved it!! I get a lot of shedding too! However, one thing that I learned (a year later, lol) is that if you do a protein treatment, your hair sheds less AND you get less tangles. You think you have tangles now? Wait till it gets longer…. lol. So yea, protein treatments have helped me A LOT. I use Aphogee 2 step Protein treatment. Because I only have to do it every 6 – 8 weeks. Some protein treatments you can do weekly, but I don’t have that kinda time. And besides keeping your lovely tresses moisturized, its needs it share of Protein also. Hope this helps. You and your TWA are beautiful!

    • Thanks for the advice! I do Curl Junkie’s Repair Me! Periwinkles treatments once a month but maybe I need to try twice a month. Those tangles and knots are driving me insane.

      Thanks for reading Miss Otha!
