Month 4: Natural hair journey

I apologize that this post finds you 3 weeks late but as the adage goes, “It’s better late than never!”

Month four was all about my edges. I noticed they were starting to fill back in and get thicker as a result of me doing a three-month Castor oil challenge. I used Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) at least three times a week for three months for a scalp massage, hot oil treatment or as a pre-shampoo treatment.

As a child, my mother would use JBCO — which she often brought back straight from Jamaica — in my hair as well as my older sister’s hair. It worked wonderfully then so I was confident it would work for me now as I am working to restore health back into my hair.

I can’t believe it, but it’s been four months since my big chop and I’m only one week away from month five. 🙂

    • Aww. Thank you! It is a lot of work but so far I haven’t had second thoughts. My sister just did her third big chop and is thinking about relaxing her hair again. I’m content. I’ll check out your friend’s site. Thanks for reading!

  1. I love that you are documenting this! I’ve been natural for 4 years but I didnt get hip to JBCO until this year. And kudos for doing a big chop! I was weavy wonder for a while before I ended up cutting the rest of my relaxer out, lol! Keep it up Ms. Lady!
