Small business owners hope to lure holiday shoppers in

Some shoppers are avoiding the Black Friday crowd to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday. Some small business owners are doing a little holiday planning themselves to get more people in the doors.

Downtown Rapid City, SD business owners say there are just some things you can’t find at a big box store, such as complimentary scones and coffee from other local stores while you shop. They say local shops offer great customer service and one–of–a-kind merchandise.

Local businesses also help support neighborhood organizations while keeping the money within the community.

“Your local businesses are the companies that support your non–profit organizations, your sports teams, they’re your friends, they’re your neighbors,” said Somer Kingsbury, owner of Who’s Toy House.

“People are encouraged by Downtown,” said Marlow Scerbenske, owner of new Downtown Shop, The Weather Vane.  “All the excitement and energy that’s Downtown right now. So it’s really awesome to be a part of that.”

Many Downtown business owners say they hope the atmosphere Main Street Square will help bring more people in Saturday, as well as the rest of the holiday season.
