Deadwood chocolate shop receives attention at CMA

Thursday night’s the country music awards was a memorable event for many entertainers but proved even sweeter for a Deadwood, SD chocolatier.

Chubby Chipmunk owner and chocolatier Mary Tautkus — who also goes by chip — says it was a sweet surprise to have her truffles be a part of the country music awards. The Main Street chocolate shop was selected to provide 100 boxes of its hand–dipped chocolates to CMA presenters and performers. Chip says it’s exciting to think about which celebrities are chomping down on her sweet treats. She says she’s even more excited about the future business the national attention will bring.

“Actually, we’re going to the Latin Grammy’s next week,” said Chip. “We’re doing 150 for the performers and I would love to see Shakira get one of them.”

The former RN nurse says she’s grateful for the attention her seven year old shop is receiving,  thanks in part to a press release for a bridal event that landed in the right hand and landed her truffles at the CMA’s.

The chocolatier says she has to hire 3 new employees since business has doubled from this time last year. Just to give you an idea, Chip says she ordered 4 tons of chocolate to get through summer and had to order an additional 2 tons to keep up with demands.
