Restoration begins on Dinosaur Park dino

The long neck dinosaur atop of Dinosaur Park is finally getting the tender, love and care it so desperately needs.

Contractor David Jasper and his crew began work on the project Monday. The popular attraction began to deteriorate after years of weathering and old age took their toll. The statue will be stripped to bear concrete before the hundreds of cracks, the broken jaw and the missing eye can be fixed.

“We’re gonna reconstruct the head, which is what we’re doing now and sandblasting the old paint on it which is 50 plus years of paint build up on there,” said Jasper, who owns DJ Painting and Universal Crystal & Art Restoration.

Jasper says it will take a few days just to get the dozens of layers of paint off. The project is expected to wrap – up in two weeks, if the weather permits.
