“Napoleon Dynamite” filmmaker to shoot new movie in the Black Hills

As the Black Hills Film Festival kick-off Tuesday, Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker and Edgemont native Sean Covel is looking to shoot his next project in the Black Hills.

Covel will start shooting his new movie, Matt Epic, the second week in June. Matt Epic was written in Hill City. The comedy is based on a series of true stories centered around a wedding.

Covel says he hopes the movie will expose and hopefully draw people to Rapid City, Edgemont, Pringle, the Buffalo Gap and other parts of the Black Hills.

“If Matt Epic does anything it will give people a pretty cool insight to what’s going on in the Black Hills and hopefully excite them to come visit,” said Covel.

Covel is looking to cast 55 speaking roles and more than 400 extras. Whether you have acting experience Covel is encouraging everyone interested to attend the casting call at Chute Roosters in Hill City.

It takes place Saturday from 8:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
