Mayor Kooiker says Rapid City is booming

ImageA new fire station, expanded student housing and even a bike path; these projects may still be in the works but they are all signs of Rapid City‘s progression.

Mayor Sam Kooiker sat down with members of the media on Thursday to discuss economic development and growth within the city. The Mayor also pointed to the main street square, the promenade, the presidents plaza and the fire station expansion project as examples.

Mayor Kooiker says Rapid City is living up to its name.

“It is and we’re moving forward but it’s also systematic and we’re rapidly growing but in the right way.” said Mayor Kooiker. “We are very excited about the direction that we’re headed as a community.”

The Mayor says the rapid boom is most prevalent in the numbers. To date, Rapid City has 1,066 building permits which total $40-50 million.
