Presidents Plaza project moves onward

City Council members help to pave the way for Rapid City‘s Presidents Plaza project.

The Legal and Finance Committee voted Wednesday to give the mayor and finance director authority to sign petitions and applications on behalf of The City and development firm, Dream Design, Incorporated.

Council members say Wednesday’s vote will help to expedite the filing process and get the nearly $40 million project moving quickly.

“We all want to make sure that the project moves in the best way that it can,” said Dave Davis, Ward 3 Alderman.

“The project is moving quickly,” said Hani Shafai, President of Dream Design, Incorporated. “We’re moving forward. We just went through the first step of the historical preservation review and it was a very favorable vote.”

Shafai says he plan to announce the general contractor Friday morning. He will choose between three local and three out–of–state firms.
