It’s February and it’s freezing; for dozens of people inRapid Cityit’s the perfect time to promote cardiac health. More than 150 people laced up their athletic shoes to take part in the 12th annual February Freeze 5K Run/Walk.
Young, old and even canine friends lined up in front ofRapid CityRegionalHospitalSunday afternoon to kick–start National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week. Some participants say the event is also a good way to get fit, have fun and keep blood pumping to their hearts.
“This year was a little crisper, but I think its actually gonna be a better race because I like to run more in colder weather than in hot,” said Sabrina Medeck, who has participated in previous years.
“It’s a good feeling,” said Stephanie Davis, a 3-year participant. “You are actually accomplishing something.”
Event organizers say the run/walk is the largest winter 5K event in theBlack Hills.
