Tourism in South Dakota continues to boom despite challenges with the economy and weather. Major flooding, high gas prices and damp weather still weren’t enough to stop people from visiting the Mount Rushmore State.
A report from a data collection firm, HIS Global Insight, shows tourism increased 1.5% in 2011 compared to the year before. Although foot traffic was down, each visitor spent an average of $232.
Tourism generated 18.7% of state revenue last year.
