Flu season off to slow start

Flu season is off to a slow start in KOTA Territory; that’s news that will make just about anyone feel good.

According to the Center for Disease Control, 11 cases of influenza have been reported in South Dakota thus far. Wyoming and Nebraska each have 18 reported cases.

Health experts say more people are less vulnerable to flu this year because they’ve had their shots. For those who have not, experts say there’s still time.

“We could see influenza probably as late as April or May so until we get through May don’t consider yourself out of the woods,” said Robert Vandeventer, a Physician’s Assistant at Rapid Care.

During the 2010–2011 flu season, 860 cases were reported in South Dakota. Twenty resulted in death.
