Buffalo skulls found near Pierre

This summer’sMissouri Riverflooding has washed away a lot of things, including memories and homes. But the 90 day flood also churned up pieces of the past.

Archeologists made not one, but 100 rare discoveries: buffalo skulls in an area nearPierre,South Dakota. Some of the skulls are believed to be more than 5,000 years-old.

Archeologists say the skulls were likely washed down stream from a ceremonial burial ground, belonging to the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.

And when the Mighty Moe flooded, it moved the skulls from their original location and sent it into the river. The skulls are currently in the protective custody of the Army Corps of Engineers.
