A peanut-free Halloween for kids with allergies

Besides wearing cool costumes, most kids look forward to Halloween because they get to go door– to–door for candy.  But trick–or–treating is no fun for children with peanut allergies.

That’s why a Rapid City mom is throwing her first  peanut–free  Halloween on Friday.  Allison Deyo’s daughter suffers from a life –threatening peanut allergy which prevents her from enjoying  her entire loot of  Halloween candy.

“We went trick–or–treating a couple years ago and she was only able to eat 2 pieces of candy by the time we got home and it was sort of heart breaking,” said Deyo. “So we wanted to give kids like her a chance to trick–or–treat like a typical kid would.”

Deyo says she has enough candy to fill two bath tubs. And the sweet part is all the candy was donated.

Residents at the Golden Living Center helped bag treats and plan to hand them out to trick – or– treaters on Friday. The event runs from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at 1620 N. 7th Street in Rapid City. Everyone is welcome, even those without peanut allergies.
