It took years to complete and now all the anticipation is over. South Dakota’s Game Fish and Parks Commission opens its Outdoor Campus West on Sturgis Road in Rapid City on Thursday.
Outdoor enthusiasts may find the 32 – acre facility breathtaking. Just because you go indoors doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to learn about the great outdoors. Birds of prey, game and other animals are realistically mounted throughout the building. Flat screen televisions line the walls showing clips of wildlife. The property even has a number of walking trails.
But the highlight of the complex is the 4,600 gallon aquarium. All the fishes inside this large tank are ones you’ll typically see here in South Dakota.
There were a number of activities for the entire family to enjoy at the open house, such as a laser shot, live birds of prey. Even the Rapid City Rush players made an appearance.
The new facility will be used to provide classes and training for a variety of activities, such as hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor cooking.
