The weather may be nice now. Just wait a few months and you’ll have to break out a winter jacket. But hundreds in KOTA Territory, especially children, don’t even own a warm coat. That’s why the Salvation Army of the Black Hills is asking for your help to provide coats for kids.
The organization partners with select Rapid City dry cleaners each year to collect new and gently used coats.
“They will clean them, put them all on racks and we then will take them to two of our locations and start distributing those as people have a need for one,” said Jim Beardsley, Major of the Salvation Army.
Children’s coats of all sizes will be collected until October 28. But to meet this year’s goal of 500 coats for 500 children, the Salvation Army will keep bins out until January.
Drop off locations are prestige, French’s, South Side, Dew Drop, Heritage Cleaners and Black Hills Beauty College. You can also leave a monetary donation at the Salvation Army so that a new coat can be purchased at JC Penny.
