Habitat for Humanity in need of families for homes

Habitat for Humanity has finished construction on four homes in Rapid City.  But despite a still sputtering economy and an unpredictable job market the organization is seeking families for those homes.

Habitat for Humanity leaders hosted an informational meeting on Saturday in Rapid City to discuss the habitat program.  They say they had a solid turnout.  But following these meetings only about half of those who attend actually apply.

Families must meet certain qualifications and put in 250 hours volunteering to build a habitat home. But leaders say families should not be afraid of the application process.

“We have approximately 4 homes now to put families into and so the criteria if they are living in sub–standard housing, if they can make their mortgage payment and partner with us, we’d love to try to help them achieve their goal of home ownership,” said Family Selection Committee member, Rhonda Corasen.

The deadline for this current application process is July 25th.
