South Dakota’s Representative speaks out on oil drilling

It’s all anyone talks about these days: the cost for a gallon of gas.  The price at the pump even has South Dakota’s lone representative talking.

Republican congresswoman Kristi Noem co–sponsored three bills this week designed to promote offshore oil drilling.  Noem says the measures would help utilize and develop a plan to continue drilling by using our own resources.  One of the bills focuses on reversing a moratorium put in place last year by President Obama.

Representative Noem says she understands why people are leery about drilling but says in order to ease the suffering at the pump  it’s important to drill and do it safely.

We recognize that it needs to be done safely but we cannot penalize a whole industry because of one incident,” said Representative Kristi Noem.

One of the three proposed bills was passed in the house on Thursday.
