A KOTA Territory organization is helping the disabled regain their independence. The Black Hills Workshop and donations from the community made it possible for 10 people to call two new residential facilities home.
Five men live at Jake’s Place and five women live at Helena’s Home. They were living in group homes or nursing homes.
The residents now share a living room, dining room, kitchen and two bathrooms, which are all wheel chair and walker accessible. But each individual will have his or her own room to give a sense of independence.
“Folks that have some accessibility needs can get around easily in the home, and have a little smaller environment to interact with their friends,” said Brad Saatoff, CEO of the Black Hills Workshop.
A 24 – hour staff member, who does not live at the homes, will be on call to provide assistance.
