A South Dakota veteran received recognition for his service during the Korean War.
On Thursday, Senator John Thune awarded George Adolph Looks Twice with the Korean War Service Medal.
Looks Twice, who resides in Oglala, was serving during the Korean War in 1953, when he was wounded by a land mine. The explosion injured his upper body and left him hospitalized for three weeks.
But Looks Twice never quit. He continued to serve his country; similar to his perseverance when he tried to enlist in the army at a young age.
“I wanted to go in when I was 16, but I looked like a 14 year old”, said Looks Twice.
While thankful, Looks Twice said he is proud of other veterans who fought to defend our country.
